The Client

The client is a US-based automotive enterprise that operates a digital platform for used-car sales, connecting sellers with a large network of buyers and managing the end-to-end process from vehicle listing and pricing to financing and final sale.

The Challenge

For a platform handling high-volume vehicle transactions, observability was critical to maintaining uptime and diagnosing failures under load. Since engineering, QA, and infrastructure teams all relied on the telemetry data, broad access to observability was essential.

As the team grew, the problem only compounded:

  • Limited access to observability data due to per-user licensing
  • Rising costs with every new team member, making scaling expensive
  • Visibility gaps across QA, DevOps, and infrastructure teams
  • Dependency on a small group of licensed users to access and share insights
  • Vendor lock-in due to proprietary telemetry formats restricted flexibility and long-term cost control

The Solution

Maruti Techlabs designed and executed a structured migration from New Relic to SigNoz. This migration replaced the seat-based pricing model with a scalable, usage-based model.

Key steps:

  • Migrated telemetry data to OpenTelemetry to enable vendor-neutral observability
  • Built an OpenTelemetry Collector pipeline to filter, enrich, and optimize data flow
  • Rebuilt dashboards, alerts, logs, metrics, and traces on SigNoz
  • Integrated Okta SSO for secure, enterprise-wide access
  • Executed a phased migration alongside live product delivery to ensure zero downtime

Results

The migration to SigNoz delivered significant cost savings and improved accessibility across teams without impacting ongoing operations.

Key outcomes:

  • ~83% reduction in observability costs from ~$48,000 to ~$8,000/month
  • Expanded observability access from limited users to organization-wide visibility
  • Eliminated vendor lock-in through OpenTelemetry standardization
  • Improved incident response time and strengthened cross-team collaboration
